Watch out for John England and the Western Swingers when you're in Nashville, they're my favourite band to see there. When I was over in March, I spent four hours in Robert's watching them!

I loved the Ducks at Peabody's! Then had a bagel & coffee at the Peabody bar. Was a long time ago, though.
I must make a trip back there one day. Memphis, Nashville & Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg is gorgeous!

What threw me was how the old man could be stood and sat at the same time. But then, I was a child. It would be many years before I realised he was referring to Stud poker.

Eh?

Boy named sue.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Oh it moved on a little from the original post, we are also having 4 days in New Orleans. Can't say as the city has ever appealed to me, its more to appease MrsD.

N'awlins is a good place to visit, but not sure how you'll fill 4 days.
There's Bourbon Street of course, which is tacky but fun in the evenings. Stroll from bar to bar with your plastic glass of beer listening to the music, mostly jazz and blues. During the day you could visit Jackson Square, with stalls and street entertainers, the St Louis cemetery where you can see the grave of the Witch Queen of New Orleans, and maybe go on a steamboat trip on the Mississippi. Not much else to do really. It's not the kind of place you can wander about outside the tourist areas (remember what happened to Ray Davies....) but I don't know how much has changed since Katrina - we were there a month or so before it hit.

You often see tours that feature Nashville and Memphis including New Orleans. It's never really appealed to me particularly, it always looks too hot! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I seem to remember that the cemeteries are some of a tourist attraction - I'd have thought that weird once upon a time, but visiting graves in Nashville seems to be big business these days too!

Any points of interest in Chattanooga [apart from the train station :D ], Atlanta, Savannah and Orlando?

I recall, when I was in Nashville, the smashed up car in which Barbra Mandrell had her near fatal crash was a major attraction at one advertised exhibition.

You off tomorrow then Peter? Hope you have a great time - don't forget the great John England in Robert's Western World on Broadway and the best Jambalaya in the world in Memphis!!

Yes, we travel up to Manchester after work and then flight tomorrow morning. John england is doing a set at an "opry plaza party" so will be watching him, the plan is to get to Roberts Western World too.
Excitement is building I dont mind saying, a little gutted that I will be in Memphis on the 6th and not in Nashville, as Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert are at the Opry. That is the way the cookie crumbles though.
