Country Routes News Blog of The Week

Postby livewire » Sun Aug 28, 2011 9:39 am

Hi Everyone ,
I recently started a BLOG calling it Country Routes News which is intended as merely a small online compliment to the Country Routes Magazine, hence the "ABOUT PAGE" and also allows me personally to share it with friends and music contacts.
I have created a separate "North East Show/Gig Guide Page" mostly showing the touring artist dates and venue links.
Also there is a page on Brian Clough's American Connection Country show which broadcasts from the North East.

The blog contains a couple of my CD reviews.
Each week I gather up what I consider to be the more interesting news which may create discussion in this thread or elsewhere on the Forum

As most of the news IS NOT my own I have shown as best as I can determine the SOURCE of the ORIGINAL material / Press Releases etc. A lot of what you read can be blogs created from blogs or other peoples work !!

** My blog is FREE from Advertising it is merely to provide information all in one spot.
If people want to read more about each article they can click on the links to go to the original source.

** I intend to post all the weekly news items together with updates and NOT as separate posts.

** I hope that the moderators are happy for me to do this and that Irene-T is happy with everything ( please read PM and advise) . If she's not I might feel the full force of Hurricane Irene ! :?
I had been posting in Irenes Christian??? thread but thought it better to create a new Topic.

Firstly weekly Country "bites"
Brad Paisley kicked off the European leg of his tour last week in London with a humbling experience backstage. He kept getting asked if he belonged there & where was his pass.
A 7th person’s now died from the tragedy at the Indian State Fair (Sugarland concert) & 3 lawsuits have just been filed in this as well.
Tim & Faith are now Barbie dolls. They’re at BarbieCollector.com-$69.95 gets you both of them.
If you want the face of Brad Paisley or Carrie Underwood on a dollar bill, head to celebrity-cash.com. Their top seller is George Strait & it’ll cost you $6.25 for a fake $1 celebrity bill. - Example
Miranda Lambert has about 30 animals & now she wants an Alpaca
George Strait is thrilled that he’s gonna be a grandfather. His son Bubba and his wife Tamara are having their first child sometime in February.

I hope that the moderators are happy for me to do this?

If Irene's happy to have you post under the country routes banner, then it's OK with us.

She might have changed her mind. It could have been just a phase she was going through. :)

ps
Think it's so brave and honest of Chely Wright to be true to herself. Especially in the music style she works within.
She knows how this will affect her in the business. So glad we have a Single White Female, who stands up and is counted

Thanks for all the positive comments about the blog, to the moderators for giving it the OK and for your kind words Irene.
I'm pleased Irene your happy for me to use the blog under the country routes umbrella.
Yes the words to Carolyn Dawn Johnson's 'Single White Female' will never quite feel the same again.

Single white female, Looking for that special lover, To put it in a nutshell, A one women man who doesn't want no other
Oh, you never can tell, She just might be your dream come true, A single white female, Is looking for a man like you

I noticed that there were some horrible judgemental comments on her Twitter Page following the wedding from the Bible Belt community. Yes she admitted it has affecting her CD sales.

One album that some of the Beeb DJ's currently getting excited about is the new one by Dale Anne Bradley. I don't know much about her maybe I should already. After a year so far of some wonderful Bluegrass releases some pundits are saying it's the bluegrass album of the year. The snippet on the video with Pam Tillis sounds stunning.

It must've been a tough decision for sure. At the time when rumours were going around, John Rich confronted her & told her in no uncertain terms that "if this is true" that it is "deviant" & the country music audience will never accept it. I can't recall the exact words quoted, but it was pretty insulting.

I remember that Clive and yes very insulting.
We can't help the way we're born, nor who we love and totally sickens me when someone is judged on how they chose to live their life.
It shouldn't be this way, but sadly. Is.
I truly know a fair few who feel they have to keep who they are under wraps, cos of some narrow minded bigots
At least we're not on here and long may this continue...

I wonder if they feel exactly the same when they saw Elton John and his partner in the invited congregation at The Royal Wedding.
What does Chely have to do now ? Make a duet album with George Strait to win back the country community who are throwing mud at her from the dirt roads. The only criticism one could have was that Chely used the publicity to promote her book and the album. If she could of kept it more private (if it were possible in the media world) maybe people wouldn't be so harsh. The fact that she is a woman seems to make her more of a target?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... itzer.html

http://blogs.tennessean.com/tunein/2011 ... ut-as-gay/ - Actually, Wright’s sales are down about two-thirds from her last studio album, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Her current record, Lifted Off the Ground, has sold about 19,000 copies since its May release. Her 2005 Metropolitan Hotel release sold 60,000 copies in approximately the same time period. The singer’s last Top 10 hit was her No. 1 song in 1999, "Single White Female," and in recent years she shifted her focus from country music to Americana.

I don't know why, but on both sides of the Atlantic prejudice is sadly still very strong
Especially inside the Country music industry
And, we all know in life, if you're a woman doing something that doesn't conform. The backlash is much more than a chap's is

Lads? Tell me why this is?

However she went about it Chely was true to herself. It must've been a hard decision...Remember how they turned their backs on KD Lang and Shelby Lynn?
They are tremendously talented lasses, yet had to step out of the Country box to keep working
Shouldn't be that way

UPDATE - Remiss of me not to THANK YOU Irene for linking to my little blog from the country routes site !

As its a mans world perhaps women are unfairly felt to be an easier target. The fact that Nashville is the buckle of the bible belt means that the religious hardliners are somewhat unforgiving. Over here the Top 2 albums last week were by Will Young and Joe McElderry so they are more accepted by the British media and fans.

Apparently Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are working on a project together - producing Neil McCoy’s next album.
The Shelby Corn Maze in Shelby, North Carolina is celebrating its tenth anniversary by sculpting Jason Aldean's head complete with cowboy hat, right in the middle of the corn. Jason’s supposed to be there in the next 2 weeks.
Scotty McCreery’s record is out Oct 4 & on it he’ll have a song by Keith Urban when he was part of The Ranch. Keith may even play guitar on it.
As for guns, Miranda Lambert says, "If it's legal in your state, I probably have one in my purse."
I had no idea Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood’s #1 duet ‘Remind Me’ was inspired by rap.
Brad says, “We got the idea for it based on Kanye & Eminem. I don’t think we do enough of their kind of creativity in country music.”
George Strait invited Martina McBride on a tour that will kick off late January.
Martina McBride tweets, “I'm going back on the road with King George! You know how much I love him. I can't wait!”
