C2C 2018

Postby Moshe » Thu Mar 16, 2017 8:38 am

C2C is over for another year. I attended only the Songwriter's night on the Thursday at indigo, which was great.
Next year? Not sure. It depends partly on the line up.
Who would you like to see at C2C next year?
I'll put my bid in early, though it is probably unlikely to happen. I have just been listening to ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL, and a,m reminded what a wonderful band they are. They would bring a big touch of class to the proceedings. The Mavericks on the same bill would be wonderful.
Any other contenders?
Otherwise, i will be content to just go to the Songwriter's do next year. I would like to see Brandy Clark in that lineup.

Next year? I'd predict the same old, same old for the line-up. The names seem to keep repeating so just ask the question: Who hasn't been there for a few year? Underwood? McGraw? And then throw in a few up-and-coming trendy people (Aaron Watson maybe or new guy AJ Hobbs, who I think is gonna be massive!), and an odd left-field name (like Marty Stuart this year and Vince Gill or the Dixie Chicks a few years back).

Asleep at the Wheel would be a good choice anytime but not at the 02, it's too big! Looking forward to seeing them at the MPEC in Wichita Falls in June ... gonna be up close and personal!! Not a proper gig if you can't see the whites of their eyes!

Surely it depends wholly on the line up? It certainly does for me anyway!

Seems obvious to me too but seemingly not to the people who buy those early release tickets! Feels like the Glastonbury thing, where it's the being there that's important, doesn't matter who's playing!

It depends on the lineup, of course, but also if there enough other good country acts visiting the UK round about then so i can have my full of live country music. This year has been pretty good- LeAnn Rimes, Margo price, the songwriters do and a few others. The 02 is not my favourite venue, so if i can see some of the artistes elsewhere that would be my prefered option.
the Indigo is a pretty good venue. decent sound, and not too big.

I'll be popping along to the Nashville Meets London thing at canary Warf this summer. It was great last year & i discovered a wonderful duet I had only previously been vaguely aware of, AMERICAN YOUNG.
A nice low key event.

They need to freshun up the lineup, they wont of course it will be Eric Churchs turn next year. I always hope for Alan Jackson or Willie Nelson.

Willie has often come here, but I think his health is not so great now. Would love to see him again.
Alan Jackson hates the Brits, so no way will he come over! He thinks that we are spying on him!

The second part was a joke, a reference to current paranoia about GCHQ from certain quarters in the USA.
But Alan Jackson has made no secret of his disinterest in the UK as a market for his music. He refused to talk to BBC Radio 2 during coverage of the CMA Awards some years back. When invited for a short interview he responded "Britain? Why would I want to do that?"
He has made other comments over the years reflecting his dismisal of the UK.

I think he is a great artiste and would love to see him in concert, but i really don't expect him to be over here any time soon. But then, stranger things have happened! :D

I can see Kip Moore returning.

Probably headliners Tim McGraw & Faith Hill as part of Soul 2 Soul World Tour.
How big an impact will Shania make with her new album this year (in the post Mutt Lange era), could she be a contender.
Drake White seems to have been a hit with fans and may be upgraded to main stage.
You never known FGL might get called back or Chris Stapleton to headline.
Cam and Cassadee Pope might also make the main stage.

There is usually a pattern that follows as to who Radio 2 playlist and artists who get featured in the country press then play at C2C.

Rumours before C2C were that the organisers were to pass it over to someone else after their 5-year deal with the O2, and it was "going to drop down"
I was therefore surprised at the end of last Sunday when the Radio2Country presenters were talking about C2C 2018 and asking people for suggestions who they wanted to see.
SJM Concerts were the promoters but have no idea who the new people are running it. Maverick said acts were already being booked up.
You would think something of that importance that a press release might of appeared saying who has took it over.

It seems to be the Wimbledon of country music in that "it's the place to be seen" with the chance of catching London Country Clive on your visit.
Another year of young people not getting onto the housing ladder instead now taking out third mortgages to see the mainstream superstars and pay for the six-packs

I wonder what the difference is between a "Facility Fee" and a "Service Charge"? I suppose the prices are not TOO bad for three nights of music, given that concerts tickets in London (especially the 02 and Wembley) seem to be so high now. The "Closer to Country" ticket, at nearly £500, is only £200 less than I'm paying for flights to Texas and hotel accommodation in June - and I'll be getting to see music I actually want to see!!

Those prices and that venue is why if I do go in 2018 I will head back to Glasgow. I dont mind paying the money, if it is a smaller venue.

I was very impressed with CHRIS STAPLETON last year. It would definitely like to see him again. He is one of those acts who prove less is more. Small band, stripped down sound. Quality.

Is this confirmation of Tim McGraw & Faith Hill playing C2C 2018?

http://www.cmt.com/news/1776444/tim-mcg ... r-in-2018/

If this "old lady" of country performs perhaps another.....Shania may do too????
