Yes - 2017!!

First release of 2017 to interest me is the new one from Ags Connolly. Called "Nothin' Unexpected", it's out on At The Helm records on 3rd February 2017. The first track to be released is available to listen to here - sounds good to me!! https://soundcloud.com/at-the-helm-reco ... s-connolly

I'm sure Country Music People's Duncan Warwick and frequent reviewer Chris Smith will appreciate this heads up.
Ags Connolly is a firm favourite with both of these traditional country and Texas Honky-Tonk lovers. You'll hear "Agsy" most weeks on Chris Smiths radio show with Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, Dale Watson aired nearly every week. Chris Smith is and has booked venues for THE PONDEROSA ACES with Ags Connolly for their April tour
23 April 2017 (Manchester, Gullivers) - 30 April 2017 (Brighton, The Haunt) including London, The Borderline on 27 April 2017

Before a note has been heard I'm sure Duncan Warwick will be awarding it a 5 STAR CD of the Month following in the predictable wake of a CHUCK CUSIMANO 5 Star CD of the Month (who via CMP & this forum is becoming a UK household name) and Dale Watson made a 5 STAR Honky Tonker of the Month winner for November.

Jeannie Seely will release her first album since 2011’s Vintage Country.
WRITTEN IN SONG, which includes 14 tracks all co-written or self-penned by Seely, hits retailers January 13, 2017.

Predictable? Possibly - but also well deserved! It's a very good album. The Dale Watson release? I'm not so sure: it's OK but a live album followed by a covers album isn't really what I want to hear.

Now THIS is interesting to me - Dale Watson and Ray Benson releasing a joint album, "Dale & Ray" (hmm-hmm, snappy title!! ) on 6th January 2017. Some brief samples here: https://soundcloud.com/bismeauxrecords- ... ew/s-N7Dok

After hearing Dale's recording of the Bob Wills song "That's What I Like About The South" on his recent covers album, I'd really like to see him do an out-and-out western swing album, so I'm hoping we might get some on this collection (though not judging by the samples!).

Alison Krauss, new album due out in February. Details here: http://thatnashvillesound.blogspot.co.u ... -city.html

Alison Krauss Prepares Solo Windy City For February Release

Release date: February 10, 2017

Krauss will release Windy City, an album of country and bluegrass classics, produced by Buddy Cannon and her first solo release in well over a decade early next year.

Krauss says, “On this album, I wanted to sing songs that are older than I am. There’s a real romance in singing other people’s stories.”

"Making this record was really about Buddy," Krauss told Rolling Stone Country. "A lot of times my work comes from this place of what I call the 'inner-policeman.' You want to do a good job and do something that comes from within yourself and your standards. But as I've worked with Buddy through the years, I've found that my 'why' got attached to him when I work for him. He really makes me want to do a good job.

"Buddy's nickname in town is 'Ears,'" she continues. "In a town full of people who are all so talented, he got the nickname 'Ears.' He has such an instinct for music and is so interested in the personality of the musicians in the room. Getting to work with him again made me so inspired."

"I've never worked less on a record that took so long," jokes Krauss. "Buddy kept looking at his watch, saying, 'We have to finish this before I turn 80!' I kept telling him, 'We've still got time!' He's only in his 60s."

The project will include tracks originally sung by the likes of Brenda Lee, Willie Nelson, Bill Monroe and the Osborne Brothers.

Old Crow Medicine Show release 'Best of', including two previously unreleased tracks on February 10th.

Press release:

Grammy-award winning band Old Crow Medicine Show is set to release a compilation album, Best Of, February 10 via Nettwerk. The record will highlight the band’s most beloved tracks from their three albums with Nettwerk: O.C.M.S. (2004), Big Iron World (2006) and Tennessee Pusher (2008). Two unreleased tracks, “Black-Haired Québécoise” and “Heart Up In The Sky,” will also be included.

This release marks the first time any of these tracks will be pressed to vinyl, a format which was unavailable for the band’s previous releases. A special vinyl package will include a four-page lyric insert and a red 7″ featuring the two unreleased tracks.

Old Crow Medicine Show’s prolific 15 year career has produced a number of hits, including “Wagon Wheel,” a track that’s now considered a country standard.

A few glaring omissions but as I am a relatively new fan who am I to say what is or isn't missing. I will buy it as OCMS really have been a highlight over the last 12 months and a collection will be interesting.

Released today and popped into my inbox this morning. Listened on the drive into work. Just one word really - fabularse!! When I first heard about this release I was hoping it was going to be a (western) swing-y affair and was slightly disappointed when I heard the preview snippets, but I shouldn't have worried. Despite not having that swing it's still a damn fine little collection: it's short, just 30 minutes, but very sweet! Brilliant!

Did you pre-order the album from Amazon or iTunes as downloads. Only on CD at gigs in America it seems.
They and Ags will be battling it out for CMP Album of the Month in February. Advance tracks for Ags being played on radio.
The cover art for "Dale & Ray" looks a bit odd. Is it deliberate to give a faded old time/ tatty/ worn look?
The Physical artwork loks great IMAGE

The opening track "The Ballard of Dale and Ray" is a fun ditty
Making music our own way, that's right, that's how we wrote we're Dale & Ray
I like to drink Lonestar, I like to smoke pot, it makes us happy, we do it a lot!
Some folks say were wasting, our lives, this way, that's how we wrote we're Dale & Ray
I like Merle Haggard and I like Johnny Cash their singin' really moves us, their songs are a smash
Today's country music, don't move us that way. We like Hank Williams, Senior! We're Dale & Ray.

Kev, Your post for the CMP favs might get you a FREE copy for February too!

What a great post!
What a great scoop for NPR.
Although it's not tagged "Country" (Indie & Alternative Rock/ Singer-Songwriters) it's the sort of music I absolutely love.
Overall for me it beats Kacey's, Brandy's and Margo Price's latest offerings
It sounds way more country than the vast majority of singles/ albums on Billboard charts and Chris Radio. Its just great straight country (not POP nor honky tonk). Such a strong album, no weak tracks, Ferris Wheel especially just Wow!
The best talents are indeed the writers behind the songs.
I wondered if it will be on UK iTunes next Friday. I bet a physical CD would sound special.

J P Harris has released a 2 x 7" single vinyl only set of duets with Nikki Lane, Leigh Nash, Kelsey Waldon and Kristina Murray. The RS piece says, "(They) join him on four songs originally recorded by power couples like Johnny Cash and June Carter, George Jones and Tammy Wynette, and Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Harris calls the project "a pure, honest time capsule of what living in Nashville has been like for me." Can't see that it's available to download anywhere (at the moment!) but you can hear all four tracks here:

Strange release, this one. I like JP Harris and I like these songs, but I'm not convinced he's improved on them that much. Still, it was an enjoyable 10 minute listen.

This young lad, Jack Phillips, has released his debut album through CD Baby. I saw him at Canton in Texas in October and he is a great fiddle player ... sadly his vocals are pretty awful: I'm sure we had half the dogs in the country 'singing' along when he sang "My Window Faces The South"! Thankfully he's joined here by guest vocalists Jake Hooker, Leon Rausch, Kristyn Harris, Caroline Grace Wiseman and Bobby Flores (who also plays fiddle and produced the album). Possibly a big name in the future - if he can escape the clutches of his scary 'show biz' mom!
