There is just so much British Country (?) music which has come out and set for release which quite frankly sounds just like POP/ ROCK lacking completely in country instrumentation.
So many just chasing the trend of the US mainstream drip fed to them on Chris Country Radio and the likes.
OK, the music isn't that bad but it's an insult to wrap themselves in the "country" flag.
Is it the bright lights of the O2 and C2C which see's almost on a weekly basis a new Brit Country (?) act emerge.

As far as Duncan Warwick editor of Country Music People British Country starts and ends with Ag Connolly and My Darling Clementine and was not impressed with the so called country "tagged" The Shires and Ward Thomas albums!

The latest culprit to rebrand

Thorne Hill was widely praised for his energetic performance at Buckle and Boots Festival.
Promoting his new single he was interviewed on Wolverhampton City Radio.
It's been played on Dean and Sheena, CMR Nashville, Baylen Leonard played it and Chris Country Radio made it New Music Monday for this week.
Thorne also asked Bob Harris to retweet about the single which he did.

"Thorne Hill has so much energy, the crowd love him!" - Chris Stevens (Chris Country)

The single costs just 0.79P - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/what- ... 1250517485

It wasn't even on the UK Country top 200 iTunes Singles yesterday after just 3 days of its release. If #10 is pretty insignificant.
If the UK Male Country Artist of the Year 2016 can't sell his music what chance for anyone else?
Or is it a case that Thorne's "newly defined sound" isn't liked enough for people to actual BUY it.
Of course telling people in interview your new single is on Spotify doesn't help!

The Shires have pulled out of Enniskillen's Harvest 2017

Image

British "country" (?) duo The Shires were set to join Miranda Lambert, Nathan Carter, Kip Moore, Mo Pitney, fellow UK country (?) band Ward Thomas along with a host of the best in Irish Country on the new festival's first lineup.
The bill will take to the stage at Enniskillen Airport on 26th & 27th August 2017, across 3 stages with jiving, dancing, camping, an international food village and much more.

UK Country Radio Awards 2017 hosted by UKCountryRadio.com

UK Country Artist Of The Year: Thorne Hill
UK Country Album Of The Year: CARTWHEELS Ward Thomas
UK Female Country Singer Of The Year: Zenne
UK Male Country Singer Of The Year: Gary Quinn

Raintown beat out Holloway Road, Memphis Belle, The Shires and Ward Thomas to win Duo of the Year and according to their fans it's "very well deserved".
Online voting and favourably UKCountryRadio.com subscribers can get you places. I doubt very much The Shires & Ward Thomas encouraged their fanbase to vote for them and probably few fans bother listening to UKCountryRadio.com

Not sure how Raintown beat The Shires & Ward Thomas to win Duo of the Year.

By critera of reach & success alone, I would imagine The Shires & Ward Thomas were miles ahead?

OK, these awards are even more pointless than the CMA (and ACM and AMA, etc.) awards but Raintown? How on earth do they keep winning? I'm no big supporter of The Shires or Ward Thomas but at least they have gone out there and got mainstream attention! I wonder if it's something to do with the Scottish nationalist vote? As part of not being given independence, were they promised that Raintown would win UK awards despite not touring? :?
